Young Leaders: 9 Year Olds Run Charitable Drive for Dogs

ImageOne o f Lake Shore’s volunteers, Pauline, sent an email request to her list for towels and blankets. Maggie heard about it from her mom and she told her friend Caitlin. They took it upon themselves to go door-to-door through the neighborhood to help the dogs at Lake Shore Animal Shelter. They knocked, and walked, asked, and packed and three huge bags of towels and blankets later, a mountain of donations taller than the girls themselves resulted!

Nadine M. Rosin, Author “The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood”

ImageWhen I came across Nadine M. Rosin’s blog, I found a great story about senior canine care, holistic choices in canine cancer, impressively researched information on toxics in our homes (dryer sheets—never use for dog clothes, towels or bed covers!), grieving consultation, and of course, the story of her own experience with her dog Buttons, and the strength of the human-animal bond. Here’s her message to you:

Why? Because her stalwart, humorous, and loving spirit, which inspired and impelled my own emotional healing, happened to reside in a canine body.

Foster Care Saves Lives

To anyone wishing to get involved with animal rescue that isn’t sure how to help, consider opening you home and your heart to a foster dog.
 
Our decision to foster for Lake Shore Animal Shelter (LSAS) was tempered by two concerns; our fears that taking in a strange animal would be a difficult transition for both us and our pets (when we started we had two dogs and two cats of our own – an important fact to which we’ll reference later), and that we would become attached to our charges and would have difficulty when the time came to send them off to their new home.
